My name is Charlie Macdonald, and I am taking a Master of Science (MSc) in Motorsport Engineering at Oxford Brookes University, where I am also a student athlete. I graduated from the Stephen J. R. Smith Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen's University in 2025 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Mechanical Engineering.
I have worked in a variety of industries including rail, concrete pipes, motorsport racing, construction and ski instruction. I have been fortunate to work for major companies like A&B Rail Services and Concast and have volunteered as a race marshal at international racing series like IndyCar and IMSA.
Across my design courses and design teams, I have developed great design experience. Within the Chassis and Ergonomics sub-teams, I have worked on engine mounts and an accumulator cart for the Queen's Formula SAE Team. I also have experience building a brake pedal, bone scaffold, gearbox, and planetary gearbox during my design courses.
I have developed many technical skills, ranging from the Microsoft Office suite of apps to CAD software like SolidWorks, ViaCAD and Fusion 360. I also have experience in multiple coding languages such as C++, Matlab, Python, and more.
Alongside the technical skills I have learned, I have also achieved certifications in many different fields. The certifications include my DELF B1 and B2, Basic FIA Race Marshal License, Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Smart Serve and more.
I am passionate about motorsport racing, especially Formula One, and am a keen amateur photographer and a lifelong hockey player and fan. I also play offensive line for the Oxford Brookes American Football team. I have my Basic FIA Race Marshal License and have volunteered as a race marshal at the Toronto Indy and many races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
